Ben Topp, LCSW

Managing Director and Founder
Midwest Care Management Services was founded by Ben Topp, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and National Certified Guardian with more than 25 years of experience advocating for individuals and families with complex care needs. Ben established Midwest in 2010 with a clear purpose: to provide flexible, high-quality guardianship and care management services rooted in dignity, accountability, and respect for each person’s life and choices.
Ben earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and his master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Emerging Leaders Initiative, an intensive executive program for high-potential small business owners. These experiences shaped Ben’s ability to build Midwest into a sustainable, well-run organization with strong practice standards and a talented, multidisciplinary team.
Ben’s passion for his work comes from the ground up. He began his career as a Direct Support Professional, providing day-to-day care to individuals with developmental disabilities. That experience shaped his understanding of how much the quality of daily support—and the people providing it—matters.
As his career progressed into case management and guardianship, Ben continued to focus on practical solutions that honor dignity, promote independence whenever possible, and improve quality of life. He regularly collaborates with families and other stakeholders to offer clear, practical insight to support sound decision-making when people need assistance. This depth of experience has been built over decades of hands-on practice and continuous learning across clinical, legal, and care systems. Just as importantly, Ben has embedded this knowledge into the culture and training of Midwest Care Management Services to ensure the same level of rigor, compassion, and accountability.
Ben is deeply committed to his community. He is a routine volunteer for Chicago Public Schools and supporter of the Alzheimer's Association. He served for five years on the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels Chicago, supporting older adults and addressing food insecurity. As a small business owner, he is dedicated to creating an organization that employees, clients, and customers alike can rely on.
Ben lives in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago and is a devoted husband and parent to three young adults, a longtime Little League baseball coach, and a sports fan who cheers for the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. He shares this hectic home with two dogs, a cat, and a growing school of fish—constant reminders of the care, patience, and attention that meaningful relationships require.
